About me
Josef Glössl is Professor emeritus of Applied Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Austria, where he initiated research on Plant Molecular Pharming (PMP), including glyco-engineering of plants, aiming at optimizing plant lines for the production of biologics by PMP for therapeutic use in human. Recently, he co-founded the the Austrian-based start-up company NOVABIOMA Biomanufacturing FlexCo aiming
at using PMP as an innovative and versatile manufacturing platform for biopharmaceuticals.
Josef served as Vice President for Research at BOKU from 2010 to 2018. Previously, he was member of the Board and Chair of the Assembly of Delegates of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and founding Vice President and President of the Austrian Association of Molecular Life Sciences and Biotechnology (ÖGMBT). He was Deputy Chair of the University Council of the Medical University of Innsbruck and a member of the Council for Science and Research of the Austrian federal state of Carinthia. In recent years he was Board member of ICA (Association for European Life Sciences Universities), Chair of the ICA Bioeconomy Committee and Board member of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).
