About me
My name is Neema Mohamed, and I am a sickle cell warrior. I was diagnosed with sickle cell disease when I was ten years old. By now, I'm 32 years old. The journey wasn't easy; there were a lot of hospitalizations and difficulties attending school, but God is good; I was able to finish my first degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. And now I advocate for sickle cell disease and provide education about voluntary blood donation. Sickle cell warriors experience multiple blood transfusions, and it was very difficult to get access to a blood donor when we needed blood. I and my fellow warrior were able to form a foundation called the Bone and Blood Foundation, in which we dedicated ourselves to providing education and raising awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation. We are working with the National Blood Transfusion Service, all hospitals in Tanzania, and the Sickle CHARTA Sickle Cell Program (MUHAS). Our aim is to save lives and reduce the deficit of blood and blood products when they are needed.
