About me
Alex Mremi is an anatomic pathologist affiliated with Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI), Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo), both in Moshi, Tanzania. He obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate training at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr. Mremi is a fellow of the College of Pathologists of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COPECSA). He did a 1-year postgraduate certificate in the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School. In 2023, he completed a PhD fellowship on HPV-based cervical cancer screening and the use of telepathology to improve cervical cancer screening uptake and early diagnosis. Currently, Dr. Mremi is a postdoctoral fellow under the Network for Oncological Research in Africa (NORA). Dr. Mremi is a member of various pathology and oncology professional societies and has attended scientific conferences, both local and international, for abstract presentations. Dr. Mremi has won a number of awards, such as the annual James G. Hakim Award on behalf of Fogarty, the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth), the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), and the Florabel G. Mullic Award. He has served as an external examiner at the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). Dr. Mremi has been the head of the pathology department at KCMC since 2016. Dr. Mremi’s research studies are centered on improving cancer screening and diagnostics, particularly with limited resources. His research areas of interest include cervical and breast cancers. As a lecturer, Dr. Mremi is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training and research supervision for medical students. He has served as a PI and co-investigator on several research projects and has over 100 PubMed-accessible scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
