Dr. Carlos Batthyany is the Executive Director of the Pasteur Institute of Montevideo.Carlos is a physician-scientist (M.D., Ph.D.) from the Universidad de la República (Udelar) in Uruguay, with extensive experience in academia and industry. He completed a post-doctorate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA, and worked in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, USA. He was an associate professor and researcher at the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine of the Udelar for over 20 years and finally principal investigator of the Laboratory of Vascular Biology and Drug Development of the Institut Pasteur in Montevideo. He specializes in analytical biochemistry, pharmacology & drug development, has published over 60 papers in international scientific journals, and is co-inventor of eight international patents. Co-founder and CMO of EOLO Pharma Inc., a startup dedicated to developing innovative pharmacological strategies for preventing and treating obesity and type 2 diabetes. Recently, EOLO completed its first-in-human clinical trial (Phase 1 A/B) in Australia, marking a historic milestone as the first study in our country’s history to transition from laboratory research to a human trial.Since December 2018, Carlos has been the Executive Director of the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo. Recently, he founded the LAB+ initiative, the Company Builder of the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo, and serves as one of its General Partners.
