About me
Professor Damalie Nakanjako (MBChB, MMED, PhD): Professor of Medicine, and Principal of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda and fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences and Director of ADAPT One Health network to build capacity for antimicrobial stewardship in seven countries in sub-Saharan Africa under the Research Networks for in Health Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa (RHISSA).. She is the immediate past Dean of the School of Medicine. She has over 24 years’ experience in Infectious Diseases care, research and training. She has led several research, training and mentorship programs including Makerere University-Uganda Virus Research Institute Infection and Immunity program to build Africa’s capacity for scientific leadership in Infection and Immunity research and the Afya Bora Consortium for global health leadership training in Africa. She is the scientific director of the translational Laboratory at Makerere University’s Infectious Diseases Institute and she leads to African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) cluster of research excellence in translational science in Infection, Immunity and inflammation, which is a network of 9 academic institutions in Africa and 3 European Universities. Damalie is winner of the 4th Fourth Annual Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award 2013 in recognition of her contributions towards leadership and health care in Africa and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) – Abdool Karim 2022 Award in Biological Sciences to honor women scientists in Low Income African Countries for their achievements in Biological Sciences. She has mentored over 58 upcoming scientists at masters’, doctoral and post-doc levels.
