About me
Dr. Aletha de Witt is the Director of Radio Astronomy Projects at the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) in South Africa. With a PhD in Astrophysics, she specializes in advancing global reference frames through high-frequency interferometric observations using radio telescopes across the globe. Dr. de Witt leads key astrometric, geodetic, and astronomical initiatives and collaborates internationally through her roles with the International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS), the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS), and the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Her work enhances global geospatial infrastructure and research by integrating advanced astronomical and geodetic observational programs. At DSI, she drives critical projects, fosters national and international collaboration, and strengthens Africa’s research infrastructure and capacity in these fields.
