Dr. Radhouane Ben-Hamadou is a distinguished marine ecologist, biological oceanographer, and environmental scientist with over 20 years of post-doctoral experience. During his tenure as Associate Professor at Qatar University, he led the Marine Conservation and Restoration MARESCO research team, focusing on marine biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. Dr. Ben-Hamadou holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University Pierre & Marie Curie (Sorbonne Universities) and has an extensive background in both academic and applied research. Throughout his career, Dr. Ben-Hamadou has successfully secured over $8.6 million USD in research funding from diverse sources, including government bodies, industry, and international organizations. He is known for his innovative work in marine biotechnology, integrated coastal management, and environmental impact assessments, with a strong emphasis on applied research that bridges the gap between academia and industry.One of his notable areas of expertise is the rig-to-reef approach, where he has been instrumental in investigating the conversion of decommissioned oil platforms into artificial reefs to enhance marine biodiversity, productivity, and connectivity. This work is believed to have significant implications for sustainable marine resource management and has been recognized as a best practice in environmental conservation. Dr. Ben-Hamadou has collaborated closely with industry leaders like TotalEnergies and government agencies to ensure that these initiatives not only preserve marine ecosystems but also align with broader environmental and economic goals.
In addition to his research, Dr. Ben-Hamadou is an active member of several international scientific societies and has published over 125 peer-reviewed articles. His work continues to influence marine conservation strategies both regionally and globally, particularly in the context of the Arabian Gulf.
