Elisabeth holds a Senior Professorship at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where she also plays a key role as the Deputy Director of the Friede Springer Cardiovascular Prevention Center. In addition, she leads the Lipid Metabolism Clinic at the University Hospital Rostock. Her research is deeply rooted in the complexities of aging, with a focus on topics such as cell aging, aging theories, and the influence of psychosocial factors on the aging process. She is particularly interested in lipid metabolism disorders, including rare genetic conditions like Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
She is a strong advocate for the early prevention of cardiovascular diseases, dedicated to advancing personalized medical therapies for both young and older populations. Her work is driven by a commitment to early detection of risk factors through innovative methods, such as Polygenic Risk Scores and newborn screening for lipid metabolism disorders. She believes that a holistic, multidisciplinary approach is essential for demonstrating the effectiveness of prevention and healthy ageing.
