About me
Prof. Eva Johanna Kantelhardt, MD
Working as a clinician in the Dpt. of Gynaecology at Martin-Luther-University, Halle, Germany, I am also a Professor in "Global Oncology". I am leading the “Global and Planetary Health Working Group”. My interests include the continuum of cancer care in Africa: cancer surveillance, screening and early detection, primary health care service research, the unique tumor biology of African patients, and interventions to improve outcomes. My main goal with international collaborators has been to build an interdisciplinary team with a global view on cancer. In 2010, we started projects on awareness, screening, patient outcome, de-centralizing and task-shifting in oncology care, and investigating into tumor biology in patients from Africa. I have mentored 45 German medical students on topics of cancer in Africa. I am currently supervising 14 Ethiopian public health PhD students enrolled for a degree in Halle. I am mentoring Ethiopian translational science PhD candidates enrolled in Addis Abeba. I have been involved in methodology transfer to laboratories in Addis Abeba since 2015 (biobanking, HPV testing, molecular methods). A total of 25 Ethiopian co-mentored Masters students completed their theses on cancer.
Currently I have the pleasure to co-leading the “Network for Oncology Research in Africa NORA” which spans from Germany to Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa and Nigeria.
