About me
I am a medical doctor and global health physician with a 17-year career experience in cancer clinical care and policy making, program management and leadership.I joined WHO in January 2024 as the Lead, Global Breast Cancer Initiative. I also support the National Cancer Control Planning with IAEA and IARC as the WHO Focal Point. In my previous role as the Head of the National Cancer Control Program in Kenya (2018-2023), I led the formulation of several cancer policy documents and guidelines and led the design and implementation of various cancer projects as per the National Cancer Control Plan (NCCP). Among my notable achievements were: scale-up of national cervical cancer screening program, pilot and establishing a national breast cancer early detection program, established three regional cancer treatment centers and various county chemotherapy centers, and an access program for cancer medicines in public cancer centers. I chaired the first National Cancer Taskforce in Kenya whose report contributed significantly in changing the cancer landscape in the country. Regionally, I supported IMPACT missions and NCCP development in Botswana, Liberia and Ethiopia. As the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative, I am now focused on leadership and advocacy for country adoption and scaling up its implementation. My areas of interest include preventive oncology especially women’s cancers, health systems strengthening, and improving access to essential cancer medicines and priority technologies towards universal health coverage.
