About me
Dr. Oliva Okwir is former fellow of the prestigious Makerere University College of Health Sciences. A medical doctor with specialty training in psychiatry. She also has experience working in hard-to-reach areas having had a year of medical internship in rural northern Uganda. Her research interests are in workplace mental health especially the correlation between work-related stress to mental health especially in low resource settings like Uganda. For her masters training she studied the prevalence and associated factors of generalized anxiety disorder in health care workers at two hospitals in Kampala, Uganda. She found that occupational stress and poor coping among other factors increased the likelihood of developing the disorder. She hopes to continue improving mental health care at the workplace especially for health workers and trainees.
