Dr. Peggy Oti-Boateng is the Executive Director at the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) since 01 November 2022. She provides leadership and strategic direction of AAS’s tripartite of recognition of excellence, think tank advisory function and developing world class scientists for addressing Africa’ s challenges with a vision to transform lives through science. She has over 40 years’ experience as an academic, research analysts and an advocate for harnessing STI policy system and governance strategies for socio-economic development with a focus on gender and Africa. She was the Director Natural Science Sector of UNESCO who led the development and adoption of the unprecedented UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science by 193 member states in November 2021 and its implementation plan; revitalised the International Basic Sciences Programme (IBSP) for the advancement of the SDGs for impact and effectiveness. Dr. Oti-Boateng holds a PhD in Food Science and Technology obtained from University of Adelaide in Australia and BSc in Biochemistry obtained from KNUST, Kumasi Ghana. She has over 70 publications-journal articles, book chapters, monographs, white papers etc. She is an International Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
