About me
Dr Shevin Jacob is an infectious diseases consultant and Reader in Sepsis Research at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. For almost 20 years, he has been based in Uganda where his research has focused on understanding the epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical management of patients hospitalized with sepsis in resource-constrained settings of sub-Saharan Africa (sSA). As part of his research portfolio, he has led multinational consortia [including the African Research Collaboration on Sepsis (ARCS) and the Sub-Saharan African ConsorTium for the Advancement of Innovative Research and Care in Sepsis (STAIRS)] that focus on strengthening sepsis research capacity in sSA to uncover and address knowledge gaps along the patient care continuum. Dr. Jacob also has over 15 years of experience as a consultant to the World Health Organization on a wide range of sepsis-related topics [including viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHF)] and is the co-founder and a Director of Walimu (a Ugandan NGO), the Secretary General for the African Sepsis Alliance and Board and Executive Committee Member for the Global Sepsis Alliance. In 2018, his alma mater, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, recognised his work in sepsis and VHF by awarding him with the Leadership in Public Health Practice Award.
